Aston Villa are currently in 13th place in the Championship table, while Birmingham City are in eighth spot.

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has told the Telegraph that Gary Rowett’s sacking at Birmingham City highlights just how difficult his job at Villa Park is.

Rowett was let go by Birmingham last week, despite the Blues sitting on the verge of the play off spots.

And Bruce, who has impressed since taking charge at Villa, claims that Rowett’s dismissal proves just how tough it is for mangers nowadays.

“I know how difficult it is, that’s the way the manager’s job is – I’ve just seen someone at Birmingham [Gary Rowett] lose his job because his face didn’t fit,” Bruce said.

“But this is a great club to work for and it’s exceeded all my expectations. I understood it’s had a difficult time and it’s my job to get rid of those difficult times. I’ll do everything in my power to turn it around, you hope you’ll get the time – but we all know we have to be instant.”

Birmingham have already moved to replace Rowett with Gianfranco Zola, much to the disappointment of many supporters at St. Andrews.

Birmingham lost their first match with the Italian in charge, against Brighton & Hove Albion yesterday.

Villa, meanwhile, have begun to climb up the Championship table since Bruce took charge.

The claret and blues are currently in 13th place in the second tier standings, after a decent run of form.

Villa are next in action later today, when they take on Queens Park Rangers.
