Jordan Lyden is yet to make a first-team appearance for Aston Villa this season.

Steve Bruce has told the Express and Star that he has been very impressed by Aston Villa youngster Jordan Lyden in training.

Lyden has trained with Villa’s first-team for the last week, as he steps up his recovery from injury.

The 21-year-old has suffered a troublesome injury to his quadricep, which has taken a long time to heal.

However, if Lyden can prove his fitness, then Bruce has hinted that the prospect could feature before the end of the season.

“He has trained the last week and to be fair I have been very impressed with him. He’s a good player,” Bruce said.

“The first thing he has to do is get fit and we are doing everything we can.

“If he gets fit then he has an outstanding chance of being in and around it.”

Lyden has made six appearances for Villa’s first-team to date, but he has not been called upon at all this season.

The defensive midfielder, who can also play at right-back, could benefit from the fact that Villa have little left to play for this season.

The claret and blues look destined to finish in mid-table, and although Bruce wants a top ten finish, there is relatively little pressure on the Midlands side at the moment.

Villa are next in action after the international break, when they take on Norwich City.
