Aston Villa slipped to another Championship defeat at St James’ Park against Newcastle last night, and Steve Bruce spoke to the media during his post-match press conference, pinpointing Henri Lansbury’s own goal as something that summed up their miserable night, as quoted by the Shields Gazette.
The Midlands outfit have not won a league game since Boxing Day, and their alarming slide down the table now sees them sitting precariously in 17th position in the Championship table, just six points clear of 22nd placed Wigan Athletic.
And despite Bruce’s initial impact when he was appointment as manager at Villa Park, his side have struggled tremendously over the past couple of months, and they look like a team totally devoid of any fight or passion.
The Villa boss tried to arrest his side’s worrying dip in form by making major changes to his playing staff in January, when he brought eight new faces into the club, but none of them have made any kind of positive impact as yet.
And Bruce discussed Villa’s display last night, highlighting one particular incident that summed up their performance, as quoted by the Shields Gazette:

“It was hideous (Lansbury’s own goal), so I’ve been told. It sums up our night.”
The Villans now face consecutive home games against Derby County and Bristol City respectively, and they must surely take six points from those fixtures if they want to get their fans back on side.
Otherwise, Steve Bruce could very well be a man under severe pressure.
