Aston Villa have been linked with an ambitious swoop for Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere.

Steve Bruce’s comments to the Birmingham Mail may have put an end to Aston Villa’s hopes of signing Jack Wilshere.

The Daily Mail suggested yesterday that Villa were trying to reach an agreement with Arsenal over Wilshere.

However, Bruce’s transfer message following the claret and blues’ defeat to Reading last night, suggests that Wilshere will be out of their price range.

Jack Wilshere of AFC Bournemouth reacts during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and AFC Bournemouth at White Hart Lane on April 15, 2017 in London, England.

Bruce was talking about signing a striker for Villa, when he stated: “I will say to the supporters there won’t be millions spent.

“I think I’ve told every supporter that since the end of the season, we simply haven’t got that.”

Arsenal may be keen to sell Wilshere this summer, but he would surely cost a significant fee.

And that may mean that Villa have to look elsewhere, if Bruce does want to strengthen his central midfield options.

Villa have lacked quality over the Championship season to date, with their results being a major disappointment.

The claret and blues are still yet to taste victory, and were booed off by their own supporters, following a 2-1 defeat to Reading last night.
