Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce was shocked that Birmingham City decided to part company with Harry Redknapp so early in the season.

Redknapp lost his job as Birmingham manager earlier in the week, with just eight Championship matches played this season.
The 70-year-old boss was sacked following a 3-1 defeat for Birmingham against Preston North End in their latest league match.
And Bruce admits that he is surprised that Birmingham didn’t keep hold of Redknapp for longer.

“Of course [I was shocked], and then you see Michael Brown and the Chesterfield manager lose his and the second is only six weeks old. It is what it is now, you’re one game away from a disaster it seems and I don’t think that’s going to change,” the Villa boss said. “It’s a very difficult job that we’ve all got these days.”
Bruce, himself, has come under pressure during his time at Villa – and he is still in far from a secure position.
Villa are in 13th place in the Championship table, and only a big improvement will win the doubters around.

Birmingham, meanwhile, are on the look out for a new manager – with Lee Carsley currently in temporary charge.
Birmingham face Derby County at Pride Park tomorrow, as they look to add to their total of one victory for the season so far.
