Aston Villa beat Derby County 1-0 yesterday, but Leandro Bacuna got sent off.

Steve Bruce has told Aston Villa’s official website that he is going to make Leandro Bacuna very miserable in the coming days.

Bacuna was sent off during Villa’s 1-0 victory over Derby County yesterday, after a serious show of dissent.

The Dutch defender barged into the assistant referee, after a foul was given against him, and he was justifiably given a red card.

Bruce was fuming with Bacuna after the match, although he was impressed by the 25-year-old’s performance in the contest.

“I thought he was excellent in the match – but he’s overstepped the mark and done something stupid,” Bruce said.

“He has made a mistake. The linesman got the decision horribly wrong. There’s a huge frustration but he overstepped the mark and he knows that.

“He now misses some games which is sad – and a big hefty fine from me. So he will be a miserable lad for the next couple of weeks.

“Overall, he was brilliant on the pitch. He reminded me what a good player he is.”

Villa’s win over Derby was huge for the Midlands club, as they have been in such poor form of late.

The claret and blues were winless in 2017 prior to their meeting with the Rams.

Villa scored their goal against Derby through a James Chester header from a corner.

Villa are now in 17th place in the Championship table, with their next match coming against Bristol City.
