Aston Villa lost at home to Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship yesterday.

Villa manager Steve Bruce reacts after a near miss during the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Middlesbrough at Villa Park on September 12, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

Villa boss Steve Bruce addressed the media during his post-match press conference, in the aftermath of his side’s disappointing defeat to Sheffield Wednesday yesterday, and admitted that he took a big gamble on playing Robert Snodgrass, as quoted by the club’s official website.

The Villans were stopped in their tracks by the Owls yesterday, eventually losing the game 2-1, bringing an end to their fine run that had seen them win five and draw one of their last seven Championship outings.

The west Midlands outfit now have two weeks off, due to the international break, and it will provide Bruce with the opportunity to reflect on yesterday’s defeat, and look at ways to improve his side further still.

The 56-year-old sat down for his post-match press conference yesterday, and admitted that he took a big gamble by starting Snodgrass against Wednesday, as quoted by AVFC.co.uk:

“I also took a gamble on Snoddy, he’s played with a fractured rib and has had to come off.”

The 30-year-old winger had to be taken off after 40 minutes, after visibly struggling, although his lack of impact on the game didn’t really affect the overall outcome of the match.

The visitors were by far the better team, and Bruce has a lot of work to do, if he is to correct his side’s faults before they return to action in two weeks time.
