Dean Smith has told Sky Sports that Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings contributed to this evening’s sickening defeat by Arsenal at the Emirates.

The Villans looked on course for a huge win after Wesley scored on 60 minutes as Smith’s side led 2-1 against the 10-man Gunners, who had Ainsley Maitland-Niles sent off in the first half.

But Calum Chambers equalised for Arsenal on 81 minutes, before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck the winner soon after to compound Aston Villa’s misery in London.

Mings, who has been excellent since his £25 million permanent move this past summer [Sky Sports], tried to head the ball to Neil Taylor instead of clearing it on his six-yard line, and Chambers nipped in and floated home Arsenal’s crucial second.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Smith said: “We’ve given them three goals. [For the second] Tyrone’s tried to cushion a header in the six-yard box and Chamber’s got on the end of it.

“With that advantage [the red card], we should have gone that game 2-0 or 3-0.”

It wound up being another dreadful trip to North London for Aston Villa, who nearly beat Tottenham on the opening day of the season but crumbled and lost 3-1.

They’re 18th in the Premier League table after winning just four points from a possible 24 so far this season.
