Aston Villa are currently in the midst of a hectic fixture schedule.

Dean Smith head coach of Aston Villa poses for a picture at the club's training ground at Bodymoor Heath on October 15, 2018 in Birmingham, England.

New Aston Villa boss Dean Smith spoke to reporters last night regarding his start to life at Villa Park, and explained how he is looking forward to having a full uninterrupted week to train with his players after tonight’s clash with Queens Park Rangers, as quoted by the Express & Star.

Smith has begun his tenure in the west Midlands with a win and a defeat in his opening two games, and he will be desperate to make that two wins, when he takes his side to Loftus Road tonight.

Despite Aston Villa’s woeful start to their Championship campaign, they still sit just six points adrift of the promotion play-off places, and a consistent run of victories would see them catapult up the league.

Smith spoke to reporters yesterday, and shared how his side’s recent rigorous schedule has made it hard for him to implement his ideas and philosophies on the training ground, as quoted by the Express & Star:

“Ideally we would have liked more time but that’s the nature of the Championship. I joined here and had a week’s training, and for three days it was with only 12 players. Then another eight come back from international duty. So the lads have come back and been involved in the games certainly haven’t had an awful lot of coaching. Theirs has been more of a recovery session because playing Saturday-Tuesday-Friday is a very quick turnaround. We can have more of a detailed week next week.”

Villa will be desperate for all three points tonight against Steve McClaren’s men, and they will have to be at their very best, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of leaving west London with anything to show for their efforts.
