Aston Villa boss has suggested that he feels that defensive recruits are far more important than attacking ones.

Villa boss Smith suggested that the squad was ‘top heavy’ when he took charge, and his opinion still hasn’t changed.
Smith feels that he has too many strikers at Villa Park, but not enough defenders.
And tightening up his side’s backline remains a priority for Smith in the January window.
“It’s very important because we need a good balance in terms of our squad,” Smith said.
“We’re quite top heavy, we’ve got four centre forwards here but we’re only playing one up front with Tammy.
“We’ve got four who would probably play for most other teams in the Championship.
“We need to balance that squad a bit better and I think everyone knows we’ve been light at the back and this window gives us the opportunity.”

Villa have already moved to sign Lovre Kalinic and Kortney Hause this month, but the duo were unable to stop the claret and blues falling to defeat on debut.
Villa were beaten 3-0 by Wigan Athletic in what was a hugely disappointing result.
Kalinic actually put in a solid performance in goal at the DW Stadium, but Hause struggled badly after coming on.
Villa are next in action tomorrow, when they take on Hull City at Villa Park.
