The 51-year-old joined up with Steve Bruce at Aston Villa last month.
Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has told the club’s official website that he will avoid going to the gym with assistant Colin Calderwood at all costs due to the ‘inadequacies’ that he regularly feels.
The 51-year-old left his position as Chris Hughton’s number two at Brighton & Hove Albion to take up the same role under Bruce at Aston Villa last month.
And Bruce told Villa’s website that the Scot – who had a year at Villa Park as a player – is doing his bit on the training ground and in the gym.

“I know one thing – you don’t want to go in the gym with him! You feel totally inadequate. He’s doing one of these Ironman things. He runs and cycles and swims. I look on aghast.
“I join in a little but I make sure I’m not in the gym while he’s there.
“I’ve got to say, he’s a really top, top class. He’s a great coach. I am so pleased I waited so long to make an appointment. I don’t think I could have made a better one.”

Bruce himself seems to be an inspired appointment by the West Midlands club.
Aston Villa have only lost one of the eight Championship games which he has presided over – and that only came on Saturday in the 2-0 defeat at Leeds. He had won four and drawn three of the seven league outings prior to that.
The 55-year-old will be desperate to make sure that his troops – six points off the pace in the playoff hunt – can bounce back as they host Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon.
