Aston Villa midfielder Bjarnason has been sidelined since injuring his groin.

Birkir Bjarnason has given Aston Villa an injury boost ahead of Saturday’s Stoke City clash by posting an update on Instagram after undergoing groin surgery.
The 30-year-old suffered the injury in the 1-0 loss to QPR back in October, and went under the knife to correct the problem. He has since missed the last six Championship matches.
The 74-time Iceland international had been involved regularly under both Steve Bruce and then Dean Smith, making nine Championship appearances this season – and even scoring twice against Wigan Athletic and Bristol City.
He issued an update to Villa fans by posting on his Instagram story, stating that he was getting the boots back on. It is unlikely the versatile star will be fit for Saturday’s clash against Stoke, though.

Villa have a number of injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s clash against Stoke, with Jack Grealish suffering with a shin problem and Neil Taylor seemingly struggling with a hamstring problem.
Smith has rejuvenated a lacklustre Villa side, picking up 14 points from their last possible 18. In those matches, they have scored 19 goals – with only 22 being scored in the previous 15 matches.
A win for Smith and Villa at home to Stoke could see them leapfrog Nottingham Forest into seventh place, if Aitor Karanka’s side lose to Derby County on Monday night.
