The Villa Park side has signed the 24-year-old Belgian from French outfit Stade Reims.
New Aston Villa signing Bjorn Engels has taken to Twitter with a message for the Villans fanbase following his move to the Premier League club from French side Stade Reims (official website).
The West Midlands outfit confirmed the signing of the 24-year-old Belgian defender on Tuesday for a fee reported by Sky Sports as being up to £9million, taking their summer spending close to £100million.
Engels, a player who was being monitored by Villa boss Dean Smith for the past 18 months, spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Reims from Olympiacos and he impressed enough for the French club to trigger the option-to-buy clause in his contract in March.
The player was not on Reims’ books for long but, as reported by the Birmingham Mail, Reims’ director-general Mathieu Lacour and president Jean-Pierre Caillot said there was an agreement in place to allow him to join any Premier League club that made a considerable offer.

Engels, who stands 6ft 4in tall, began his career at Club Brugge where he spent a short period playing alongside Villa forward Wesley Moraes before joining the Greek giants of Olympiacos, and has been capped by Belgium from Under-17 level through to the Under-21s.
