Matias Vecino has confirmed he is now leaving Inter as a free agent this summer, a player Villa and West Ham wanted in 2021. The Uruguayan sees his five-year stint at Inter come to an end, with his deal ending in June.

Vecino, 30, has been a loyal servant to Inter over the last five seasons – but has always been a rotational option. Joining the club from Fiorentina, he has since played 127 times for the Serie A side. Now, he is a free agent.

In January 2021, CalcioMercato claimed that both Aston Villa and Newcastle were looking at the 57-time Uruguay star. It was believed that the Premier League duo could be available for a bargain £6million at that time.

Vecino posted on Instagram this week, sending a heartfelt move to Inter Milan’s supporters. He tells the club’s fans that scoring a goal and the noise of the San Siro as the ball hits the net, is a sound that he will never forget.

Translation: “Thanks Inter. Thank you for giving me this experience. It has been an honour and a privilige to wear your colours for five years. Club, coaches, staff, all the people, thank you.

“My teammates, the moments shared, through good times and bad, thank you so much. But above all, the Inter fans. Because the scream of the San Siro after a goal stays with you forever. I’ll never forget it.”

Should they have a look now? Well, Villa have just signed Boubacar Kamara on a free from Marseille. They still have Douglas Luiz, John McGinn, Morgan Sanson and Marvelous Nakamba. For now, they are well stocked.

Sanson and Luiz have been linked with a summer exit. West Ham could do with some midfield depth, especially with Mark Noble leaving and Declan Rice potentially set to exit for a big-money fee. He is likely to stay in Italy.
