Both Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion are believed to be keen on Sam Johnstone this summer.

According to a report in the Telegraph, Manchester United are attempting to sign Lee Grant from Stoke City and that surely suggests that Sam Johnstone is on his way out of Old Trafford.

Johnstone has become a transfer target for both Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion, as reported by the The Sun.

And with United signing another third choice stopper, it seems that Johnstone will be leaving the Red Devils this summer.

Whether Johnstone will be departing permanently or on loan remains to be seen, but Villa may well be hoping that United do not choose to sell him.

Villa don’t have the finances to afford a permanent deal for Johnstone, but a third successive season of having him on loan could appeal.

West Brom, meanwhile, do have the money to finance a move for the stopper, and they could need a new goalkeeper.

Ben Foster appears to be edging towards leaving the Hawthorns, so the news that United are seemingly prepping for Johstone’s departure should be treated as a boost for Darren Moore’s chances of landing the Englishman this summer.
