Aston Villa are seemingly in search for a new goalkeeper ahead of their return to the Premier League, with Stade Reims’s Edouard Mendy the next name on the list.

Newly-promoted duo Aston Villa and Norwich City have expressed their interest in Stade Reim goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, according to a report.
France Football are reporting that Villa and their now Premier League rivals Norwich have made contact with the Ligue 1 club in regards to their 27-year-old keeper, who has only played for them during his career.
It isn’t a secret now that Villa are looking for a new shot-stopper ahead of the new campaign, with Jed Steer playing in between the sticks during the later part of Villa’s promotion.
The big problem for Villa, and Dean Smith, in particular, is that the Midlands outfit had to go through five goalkeepers last term, which didn’t help the club’s cause.
Whilst Steer ended the season very well, he didn’t play throughout, whilst Lovre Kalnic arrived in January, and the currently injured Orjan Nyland was error-prone when he was given a run of games.

Nonetheless, during his career, Mendy has played 85 games for his current club side, whilst he also has two international caps with Senegal to his name [transfermarkt].
If Villa were to push forward for a deal for Mendy then more than likely he would be a cheaper option for the club, but he would be less experienced and less-known than other keepers that have been touted to move to the club.
The Daily Mirror are reporting that Villa are looking to secure the signature of Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland, with a price of £27 million being seemingly slapped on his name.
There’s no doubt that Butland would be the better option for Villa given his experience, qualities, and the fact that he is England’s number two, at this moment in time.
