Aston Villa and Newcastle are among the clubs surprisingly linked with Stephy Mavididi.
According to 90Min, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are among the clubs to have asked about a potential loan deal for Juventus attacker Stephy Mavididi this summer.
Mavididi, 20, made the shock move from Arsenal to Juventus last summer, heading into their Under-23 side, and he even managed his first-team debut by the end of the season.
The Englishman ended the campaign eight goals in all competitions, picking up one assist too, and there are real hopes that Mavididi can continue his development and become a quality player in Turin.
First-team exposure will be key, and it’s claimed that Aston Villa, Burnley, Newcastle United and Southampton, as well as Championship clubs Derby County, Fulham and Middlesbrough have all enquired about taking him on loan.
So many clubs being linked at once is an eyebrow-raiser, but it wouldn’t be a huge shock if certain teams are interested in Mavididi’s combination of great speed and flamboyant skill.
Capable of playing out wide or up front, Mavididi is the kind of player who could maybe come off the bench and attack tired legs, using his pace and tricks to cause mayhem late on.
Villa and Newcastle may well be looking for that kind of player to beef up their attacking options, but his disappointing Championship loan spell with Preston North End in 2017 will be a concern.
Mavididi struggled to make an impact in that move, and whilst he appears to have a bright future, it would be a surprise to see him immediately shine in the Premier League, instead seeming more like a speedy squad option.
