Aston Villa and Newcastle United have denied that talks have taken place over a deal for midfield starlet Jacob Ramsey.

22-year-old Ramsey is regarded as one of the top midfield prospects in England and he has emerged as an important member of Unai Emery’s squad this season.

However, with ongoing Profitability and Sustainability issues – Villa, like many Premier League clubs, are looking at potential departures and have not been shy in allowing homegrown talent to depart in the past 18-months.

Villa sales

Carney Chukwuemeka, Jaden Philogene, Cameron Archer and Jacob’s brother Aaron, have all been sold – the latter three with buy-back clauses, for close to £50million – although a deal for Jacob Ramsey could surpass that amount in one go.

Premier League rivals Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are all said to be interested with sources insisting that Villa would consider a sale. Bayern Munich and Juventus are also understood to admire the player.

However, Villa boss Unai Emery has denied that he is ready to let Ramsey leave.

“Jacob Ramsey is a very important player, he grew up in the academy and his progression is getting better,” he is quoted by the Birmingham Mail.

“His level is increasing a lot and I want to keep him here with us. Of course, there are movements (speculation) around him.

“Maybe there are teams involved in the possibility to sign him because he has a big, big potential at Villa and in England. I want to keep him here, 100 per cent.”

Newcastle denial

Reports had suggested that Newcastle had made an approach, for Ramsey over the weekend – although that was quickly denied by Eddie Howe, who when asked about a possible bid said: “That’s incorrect.”

Newcastle are set for a busy end of the window with questions marks remaining over a number of players, but one player who won’t be leaving is Lewis Miley – as the teenager midfielder has signed a long-term contract at St James’ Park.
