The Sun have reported that Aston Villa are keen to sign out-of-favour Middlesbrough hitman Jordan Rhodes on loan in January.
The 26-year-old has managed just two Premier League appearances so far this season, with one of those coming from the start.
Steve Bruce’s coronation as Aston Villa manager ended in a 1-1 draw with Wolves at Villa Park on Saturday, with Jonathan Kodjia scoring from the penalty spot for the hosts.
Kodjia and Ross McCormack fetched a combined £27 million in the summer but the duo have managed four goals in 15 Championship matches between them this season.
Rhodes is a tried-and-tested talent in the Championship and recruiting a player of his calibre would certainly boost Aston Villa’s hopes of finishing in the playoff spots.
But Aston Villa fans are not overly keen on seeing another striker arrive at Villa Park in the coming months, while Middlesbrough fans also seemed reluctant to see him leave.
Rhodes, who joined Boro in January, netted six times in 13 Championship starts to help the Riverside Club get over the line and secure Premier League promotion.
In the first half of last season, Rhodes netted 10 Championship goals in 25 appearances for Blackburn Rovers.
