Aston Villa reportedly want to sign Barnsley defender Liam Lindsay in the summer.

Aston Villa and Barnsley fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from The Sun on Sunday (24/2; page 64) that suggested that the Villans want to sign Liam Lindsay in the summer.

Dean Smith clearly needs to improve his defensive options during the next window. His side still lack depth in that area of the field, and that situation could get worse given that both Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause are currently on loan at Villa Park.

But Villa are starting to make plans for the end of the campaign. The Sun on Sunday (24/2; page 64) reported at the weekend that Lindsay is on their radar, and could be available for £2.5 million if the Tykes are promoted out of League One.

Lindsay has been a key player at Oakwell over the last two seasons, making 73 league appearances since his arrival from Partick Thistle.

The reports have actually been met with a mixed reaction from both Villa and Barnsley fans on social media. Some Villans supporters believe that he could be a good signing, and some of the Barnsley faithful are clearly desperate to see their side do everything they can to keep him.

However, there are also a decent number of Villa fans who are underwhelmed by the interest in the centre-back. The clubs previously did business over James Bree and Conor Hourihane’s moves to Villa Park, and with the pair often coming in for criticism since arriving at Villa, there is concern that Lindsay could be an underwhelming addition.

But perhaps most worryingly for Smith is that some Barnsley fans are quite content with the idea of losing Lindsay in the summer. Here is what some of the Villa supporters make of the reports…
