Aston Villa winger Robert Snodgrass has heaped praise on Scotland teammate Andy Robertson on Twitter after the Liverpool left-back starred for the Reds in their win over Porto.
The 23-year-old made his debut in European competition at left-back as the Reds looked to earn victory in Portugal, and instead blew away the home side with an emphatic 5-0 win.
Sadio Mane scored a sensational hat-trick, while Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah also got in on the act, the latter scoring a Lionel Messi-esque effort that saw him dumbfound Porto’s goalkeeper Jose Sa.
Snodgrass, who is currently on loan with Aston Villa from Premier League outfit West Ham United, congratulated his national team opponent, stating Robertson had looked more than adept at Champions League level.
Robertson has made the left-back slot at Liverpool his own, displacing Alberto Moreno and James Milner with the latter reverting to his normal position of central midfield.
Now first choice under Jurgen Klopp, Robertson is expected to remain in the side as the Reds take on Snodgrass’ parent club West Ham in nine days’ time after losing to West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup – meaning they have a free weekend.
