Aston Villa ace Keinan Davis: Joe Cole gave me advice on the phone

At just 19 years of age, Keinan Davis is currently relied upon as Aston Villa’s attacking spearhead.

Aston Villa attacker Keinan Davis has tole the club’s official website that veteran playmaker Joe Cole has been on the phone to give the teenager advice.

Davis, 19, is currently relied upon to fire Villa towards the top of the table with a trio of strikers on the sidelines. Jonathan Kodjia has an ankle injury, while Scott Hogan has undergone an operation on his stomach and Gabriel Agbonlahor remains unavailable.

Villa’s number 26, Davis, has started the last three Championship matches as a striker, and although he has failed to score in those outings he does have two goals and two assists for the season so far.

His form could be down to the advice given to him by former Aston Villa playmaker Joe Cole, as Davis told the club’s website that he had been offered guidance by the 56-time England international.

“The biggest name to get in touch was probably Joe Cole, who gave me a ring and offered me some advice,” Davis said.

“He knows my agent and we got in contact. He gave me some helpful guidance, which was great because he’s achieved a lot.”

Cole is currently with Tampa Bay Rowdies in the second tier of American soccer, after an illustrious career that saw him win Premier League trophies with Chelsea as well as starring for West Ham, Liverpool and French side Lille.

Injury prevented Cole from showing his true colours during a two-season spell at Villa Park between 2014 and 2016, and the 36-year-old is now likely to be looking for a new career move as his Rowdies contract is set to expire in nine days.

At the other end of his career, Davis is just getting started and is expected to lead the line once again for Steve Bruce’s side as Villa face Sunderland at home on Tuesday night.
