Jack Grealish admitted that performance-wise, he hasn’t been ‘effective’ enough for Aston Villa since the restart, but he thinks he was back to his best during yesterday’s win against Arsenal.

The Villa captain also shared that he hasn’t felt as fit as he did before lockdown, but made it clear that’s ‘no excuse’, whilst speaking to Sky Sports (21/07/20 at 10:30 pm).

Since the restart, by Grealish’s standards, he has been more off than on for his side, but he has turned it on during these last three matches.

In what could have possibly been his last game as a Villa player at Villa Park last night, Grealish was very honest in how he has performed since football returned to action.

“Since we have been back I probably haven’t been as effective as I was before [lockdown],” Grealish told Sky Sports.

On whether he’s felt that pressure in trying to keep Villa up? “No, not one bit,” he replied. “I don’t really mind pressure. Pressure is a privilege. My old coach always used to say that to me

“But since I have come back, I truthfully haven’t felt as fit as I did before. But that’s no excuse. I just need to do what I know I can do. I think I did it today. I was probably unlucky not to get an assist in the end.”

In truth, during these past two matches, Grealish should have registered at least two assists for his side.

Against Everton, Anwar El Ghazi managed to put his pin-point cross over the bar, whilst Keinan Davis missed a one-on-one opportunity against Arsenal when he was put through on goal by Villa’s main man.

Either way, Grealish is back to his best and it’s now a case of producing that form on Sunday against West Ham, where Villa’s survival hopes is in their own hands.
