Aston Villa are now five Championship matches into the 2017/18 season so HITC takes a look back on what has happened so far.
Aston Villa return to domestic action this weekend following the international break when they host Brentford in the Championship on Saturday (September 9).
It has been a tricky start to the new term for the Villans, whose only league win has come at home against Norwich City 4-2, while they have drawn twice and lost twice.
Steve Bruce’s men were among the promotion favourites before the campaign started and he will be hoping their form turns around soon.

Ahead of the season starting one of the big talking points was the signing of John Terry from Chelsea on a free transfer. Terry was subsequently made captain and has played every minute of the team’s Championship campaign to date.
The 36-year-old was one of seven new arrivals, which also included the experienced Chris Samba, Glenn Whelan, Ahmed Elmohamady and Robert Snodgrass. Sam Johnstone also joined on loan from Manchester United.

One of the big positives for Bruce and the club as a whole has been the emergence of youth talent such as attacking duo Keinan Davis and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy.

The club are in the third round of the Carabao Cup after beating Colchester United and Wigan Athletic so far. They face Middlesbrough at home on September 19.

Bruce has now been in charge of the Birmingham side for almost 11 months. Since 1990 only two permanent Villa managers have a better win percentage in the league than Bruce’s 42.86% – Ron Atkinson (43.26%) and John Gregory (43.16%).
