Former Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest striker Stan Collymore has taken to Twitter this evening after his two former clubs played out a 2-2 draw this afternoon.

Villa were looking to pick up a home win having lost 3-1 to Bristol City in their last game, but were behind when Greek striker Apostolos Vellios hammered home a long-range screamer to put Forest in front.

Roberto Di Matteo’s men did hit back though, as after Jordan Ayew had rattled the woodwork, Ross McCormack slotted home from inside the area to draw Villa level – and Rudy Gestede then produced an acrobatic effort to put Villa in front.

However, there was a sting in the tail for Villa as Forest full back Hildeberto Pereira set off a stunning run forward, dancing through the Villa back line before teeing up Henri Lansbury to finish with the outside of his foot.

Pereira was red-carded for overcelebrating the goal, but Villa ran out of time to try and grab a winner, meaning Di Matteo sits on six points from six games, whilst Forest have ten points so far this term.

After the final whistle, pundit Stan Collymore – who represented both teams during his playing days – took to Twitter to give his view on the result and the performances from both teams.

Collymore suggested that it was a good point for Forest, who scored two great goals – their only two shots on target in the game.

The former striker added that Villa must learn how to close out games having again lost a late goal, but was pleased with the tempo shown in the second half of the game.
