Watford boss Vladimir Ivic has shared that Ismaila Sarr ‘asked to play’ for the Hornets on Saturday despite rumours that Liverpool are keen on him, as he told the Watford Observer.

Sarr returned to Watford’s matchday squad for the first time this season, as he helped his side record a 1-0 win against bitter rivals Luton Town.

France Football recently claimed that Liverpool remain keen on the 22-year-old attacker, who played the full 90 minutes over the weekend.

Despite the rumours surrounding Sarr’s future, he has seemingly put his head down and is ready to produce the goods for his current club, according to his coach.

“When you have one player like Sarr, we don’t need to speak about his quality because all of you know his quality,” Ivic told the Watford Observer.

“He’s a guy who worked hard from the moment he started to work with the team. He’s a very positive man who asked to play, who wanted to play.

“For me, it’s important that players who want to be here and who want to play can play.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

Even though Watford suffered the dreaded drop last season, Sarr was one of their standout performers, as the gangly attacker showcased great close control and lightning speed from a starting position.

Sarr’s movement in the final third and his ability to break the lines was showcased to the world when he netted a brace and helped end Liverpool unbeaten run last season.

But those on Merseyside will forgive the versatile attacker if he swaps Vicarage Road for Anfield before the delayed transfer window slams shut.

Added with that, someone like Jurgen Klopp will surely be pleased with the mentality Sarr is showing because, despite the rumours about his future, he is putting his head down and working hard – traits which bode well when potential suitors come knocking.
