Speaking on his podcast, The Athletic’s Phil Hay has been discussing the future of Kalvin Phillips and he’s been talking about an inquiry Leeds United received from Real Madrid a couple of years ago.
The midfielder is being linked to the likes of Manchester City and PSG this summer, and according to Hay, this isn’t the first time Europe’s elite have come calling.
The journalist states that he’s been told that both PSG and Madrid have asked about Phillips in the past, but now, all roads seem to lead to Manchester City.
What’s been said?
Hay shared what he knows about Madrid and Phillips.
“Funnily enough, about two years ago, someone said to me that both PSG and Real Madrid had speculative nibbles at Kalvin Phillips, which is to say that they asked the question about him without being active or busy, so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility, but it seems that all roads lead to City,” Hay said.

Missed the chance
If Phillips had any dreams of playing for Real Madrid, he’s probably missed his chance now.
Indeed, while the Yorkshire Pirlo is probably good enough to play a part for Los Blancos, the fact that the Spanish champions have recently signed Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelian Tchouameni probably suggests that they won’t be looking at Phillips anytime soon.
However, with Man City and PSG both keen, Phillips may still get his chance to play for one of Europe’s elite clubs, and with a bit of luck, he may even be able to win a Champions League.
