Jurgen Klopp has stated ‘ask Newcastle and Manchester United’ if Liverpool can secure a top-four finish and Champions League football for next season.

Prior to Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Fulham on Wednesday night, Jurgen Klopp was asked about his side’s chances of securing Champions League football.

But the Liverpool boss responded by telling the reporter that he was ’embarrassed’ to constantly answer these questions.

The Reds are sitting fifth in the Premier League table and they have a very slim chance of returning to play against the elite next season.

The ball is in the court of Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United and Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United – the Magpies are third in the table on 65 points, six ahead of the Reds having played a game less, whilst those at Old Trafford have 63 points and have played two games fewer.

Either way, this was Klopp’s pretty blunt response when asked about Champions League football, as he told Premier League Productions (03/05/23 at 7:35 pm).

“I can’t believe these questions,” said Klopp. “I’m embarrassed to answer them all the time. I have no clue.

“You have to ask Newcastle and Manchester United what they think about it. Our only chance we have is to win football games, and then we will see.”

EUROPA LEAGUE FOOTBALL FOR THE REDS

Liverpool have won five games on the bounce and there is every chance they win their remaining matches, even then, they probably won’t get a top-four finish.

There has to be a collapse of all collapses from the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United for them to even have a chance.

But what’s even more difficult is that the duo can afford slip-ups, yet they would still get that all-important Champions League spot.
