Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been discussing Bukayo Saka and whether or not he is better than Phil Foden.
Every generation has a defining debate around two English players. Be it Frank Lampard vs Steven Gerrard, Alan Shearer vs Michael Owen or Jimmy Greaves vs Geoff Hurst, there’s always a huge debate when England have two talented players in the same position.
Saka and Foden are coming through as two of the best young wingers this country, and, inevitably, they’re being compared to one another.
Ferdinand has now given his verdict on this debate, and he’s said that Saka is ahead of Foden right now.

Saka better than Foden
The pundit discussed these two players
“Saka vs Foden?” Ferdinand was asked.
“If you ask me this 18 months ago I’m going with Foden, but right now I can’t look past Saka,” Ferdinand said.
Slightly ahead
Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden are both undoubtedly two of the world’s most talented young players, but it’s hard to argue against the fact that that Saka has the edge over Foden in terms of overall ability and potential.
Foden may be the more technical, but in terms of natural ability, Saka may have the edge here. One thing that showcases Saka’s innate talent over Foden is the fact that he’s so adaptable. He came through as a left-back for Arsenal before moving to the left wing and eventually the right, taking to each position like a duck to water.
Saka has been incredibly consistent for Arsenal this season, producing a number of assists and scoring vital goals. He has been one of the main reasons for Arsenal’s good form and he is playing an important role in the team.
Foden has also been impressive for City this term, but he has not been anywhere near as consistent as Saka, particularly in the big games. Yes, he got that hat-trick against Manchester United, but he can often fail to show up in the big moments.
Right now, Saka is slightly ahead of Foden, but there’s no doubting that these two are generational talents.
