Ashton compares West Ham boss Moyes to Big Sam

West Ham United have appointed David Moyes as manager after sacking Slaven Bilic on Monday.

Dean Ashton has told TalkSPORT that he does not believe new West Ham United manager David Moyes will inspire anyone involved with the Hammers and compared him to Sam Allardyce.

West Ham announced the decision to appoint former Manchester United and Everton boss Moyes on their official website on Tuesday morning, less than 24 hours after sacking Slaven Bilic.

The Hammers have been in abysmal form under the guidance of the Croatian boss, now sitting in the Premier League relegation zone after losing 4-1 to Liverpool on Saturday evening.

It has seen the West Ham board move quickly to appoint Moyes, but former Hammers striker Ashton believes 63-year-old Allardyce got the boot because he could not inspire the West Ham players or fans and feels Moyes will fail in attempting to do the same.

“They didn’t like Big Sam and Big Sam got them results,” Ashton said, as quoted by TalkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil’s Twitter account. “Half the stadium wanted him out because they couldn’t stand the football.

“They don’t just want results. They want to be inspired and want to enjoy watching their football. [David Moyes] is not going to inspire anyone at West Ham, I’m sure of that.”

Moyes is considered somewhat a surprise appointment given the backlash from fans regarding the decision, after difficult spells with Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland.

The Scottish manager will be looking to strike a chord with his new squad on the training ground sooner rather than later, as the Hammers prepare to face Watford after the international break on November 19.
