The utility man looks set to face Liverpool despite a knock against Southampton.
Manchester United’s season has been perpetuated by two themes recently. Steady improvements and injury setbacks.
The list of players who have spent time on the sidelines for United this season is massive. Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones, Antonio Valencia, Rafael, Marcos Rojo, Falcao, Ander Herrera, Daley Blind, Michael Carrick … you get the point.
Today they received the news that Chris Smalling will miss two weeks with a groin injury, luckily just after Evans made his return to action from injury.
But Ashley Young gave them a little cause for concern today.
He himself has had a topsy turvy season because of injury problems but has recently been fully-fit and firing.
Playing mostly as an emergency left-back or wing-back he has been very impressive recently, but ahead of United’s game with arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday he certainly gave the club and its fans something to concern themselves with.
Speaking to the official Manchester United website:
“I’m a little bit sore. You have these little knocks and bruises but dust yourself off and away you go again.”
He does however clearly seem to rule out any chance of him missing Manchester United’s next game against a wounded Liverpool.
So an injury boost perhaps for United.
