Ashley Young has been left out of Manchester United’s squad to face Liverpool.
Ashley Young’s status as one of the fall-guys for the club’s heavy defeat to Manchester City has been confirmed.
The England international winger has been left out of the club’s squad to face Liverpool in the Capital One Cup with a strong squad named.
CONFIRMED: Manchester United v Liverpool starting line-ups
It includes four wingers, Nani, Giggs, Zaha, and Januzaj, with Young not even making the bench.
Young was heavily criticised for his poor performance in United’s 4-1 loss on Sunday by fans and pundits alike, the latest in a series of poor displays this season and last.
The winger completed just nine passes the entire time he was on the pitch at the Etihad, giving the ball away repeatedly.
Whether Young’s omission from the squad is punishment or simply man-management from David Moyes in taking him out of the firing line remains to be seen, but either way it does not appear good news for the winger.
Is this the beginning of the end for Young at United?
