Michael Keane has struggled since his move to Everton in the summer.
Everton defender Ashley Williams has shared his delight on the club’s official website with the improving form of under-fire defender Michael Keane, following a difficult start to the season for the Englishman.
Keane, 25, has started eight of Everton’s last 10 Premier League games and is beginning to show why he cost a huge £25million in the summer window to lure him to Goodison Park from Burnley.
The former Manchester United defender struggled at the start of the season, as injuries prevented him from generating any kind of consistency and momentum in a Toffees shirt.
But Wales international Williams stated his delight to see Keane begin to fight back against the critics as the commanding centre-back begins to improve his form for Sam Allardyce’s side.
“I thought Michael did really well against a tough Watford front three,” said Williams. “I was really disappointed for him and the whole team that we did not get the clean sheet we wanted so much.
“Michael has done well. He has had a run in the team – he plays for England and is obviously a top-quality player. I am happy he is doing well.”
Keane’s improved form will give the defender hope of achieving a place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad for this summer’s tournament in Russia, as he looks to remain consistent between now and the end of the season.
He is likely to start Everton’s next match on Saturday as the Toffees travel to Lancashire to face Keane’s old side Burnley at Turf Moor in what will be his first return to Burnley’s home ground since his departure.
