It was a surprise when Premier League side Burnley came in for him in 2017, paying £5 million to Aston Villa.
Sean Dyche’s decision to sign Westwood has paid off, both for the club and individual.
Westwood has been voted as Burnley’s player of the year, winning a double award from the fan vote and his teammates.
Westwood told the club’s official website: “They’re special awards. I never expected it and to have the lads and the fans voting for me is a great honour.”
From being a whipping boy for Villa fans, now Westwood is truly appreciated by Burnley supporters .
This season he has provided seven assists.
He managed only 11 during four seasons at Aston Villa.
Now knowing he is fully appreciated once again, Westwood could get even better.
