Ashley Cole has claimed that Tariq Lamptey is a better dribbler than both Liverpool duo Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The attack-minded right-back was sold by Frank Lampard and Chelsea back in January, as Cole told Sky Sports PL (20/09/20 at 1:35 pm) that whilst Lamptey lacks the end product compared with Liverpool’s two fullbacks, the Brighton man is ‘the best’ at dribbling.

Both Robertson and Alexander-Arnold have set the bar for fullbacks in England’s top-flight and in Europe because of the performances they have put in during these past few seasons.

Even though Lamptey is now plying his trade for a club outside of Europe in Brighton, Cole was impressed with the qualities the Stamford Bridge academy product has compared with two of the best.

“He has [surprised me],” Cole told Sky Sports. “If you go back to Robertson and Trent. I would say the dribbler, I think he’s the best with the ball at his feet and maybe his end product isn’t up to par yet.

“He’s so effective. He drives with the ball. He’s quick and so far this season he’s done very well.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

Even though Chelsea brought through a number of young players last season, he was one who Lampard parted ways with after being provided little game time.

Led by the likes of Alexander-Arnold, Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier, England have a high volume of right-back’s to choose from.

Whilst there are others who are more established than Lamptey, there aren’t many who are rising as quick as the speedster, who assisted during Brighton’s win over Newcastle on Sunday.
