The Manchester City teenager is impressing at the club at under-18 level.
Manchester City youngster Ash Kigbu has been speaking to the club’s official website about his decision to sign for the Blues rather than their fierce rivals Manchester United.
The 16-year-old centre-back has been speaking about his decision to spend some time out of the game to focus on his studies, having previously trained with both City and United.
When it came to returning to competitive action, Kigbu and his family were swayed by City’s partnership with St Bedes – something that allows young players to develop in the game while also maintaining their studies.
“At the time I could have gone to United as well,” Kigbu told mcfc.co.uk, “but the St Bede’s programme helped me and my parents to make a decision, because it meant I could get a good education as well.”
Kigbu currently plays for City’s under-18 side and in his first year as a scholar he is impressing at the Etihad Stadium.
So much has been made of City’s spending ability that their youth development could easily be forgotten, but Manuel Pellegrini’s club has some of the most exciting teenage talent in the country and their senior side should ultimately benefit from that.
Kigbu will know he has a long way to go before he will be knocking on the manager’s door, but he is certainly starting as he will mean to go on.
