Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing the AC Milan full-back

According to a report from Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Tottenham are lining up a move for AC Milan left-back Ricardo Rodriguez, but his inconsistent performances for the Rossoneri should serve as a red flag warning for the north London outfit.

Mauricio Pochettino has worked wonders since taking over as manager of Tottenham way back in the summer of 2014, but this summer will be an incredibly important one for the club, if they are to go on and end their 10-year wait for a major trophy.

Left-back will be a particular area of concern for Poch, with Dany Rose’s future in north London uncertain to say the least, and the jury still out as to whether Ben Davies is good enough to cut it at a top four club.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, the Argentine has identified Rodriguez as the ideal summer recruit, but Tottenham need to be wary of bringing the Swiss to north London.

The 25-year-old joined Milan from Wolsburg in the summer of 2017, and went on to rack up 44 appearances in all competitions for the Italian giants.

His form was sporadic at best, however, with his defensive frailties being exposed in Serie A.

In the 44 games that Rodriguez played for Milan, they shipped 49 goals – a rather hefty tally for a team who are supposedly strong defensively.

The Switzerland international has always been strong going forward, but Tottenham are more in need of a sound defender first and foremost.

And Rodriguez isn’t that man on a consistent enough basis.

It also must be noted that a step up in intensity that a move to the Premier League entails would be quite the adjustment for Rodriguez.

And Tottenham might just be better off avoiding a move for the Swiss star.
