Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly missed out on Gavin Bazunu.
Tottenham Hotspur may have enjoyed a strong start to the Premier League season, but their recent transfer problems appear to have haunted them again this week.
Spurs made headlines this summer by failing to bring in a single new signing, and whilst Mauricio Pochettino has led his side to wins over Newcastle United and Fulham, he may well have wanted some reinforcements for his squad.
Even with the transfer deadline now two weeks gone, reports earlier this week suggested that Tottenham have missed out on another signing in Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.
The Irish Independent reported earlier this week that Manchester City have beaten Spurs to the signing of goalkeeper Bazunu, paying a fee of €400,000 (£360,000) for the 16-year-old shot-stopper, who has already kept four clean sheets in his four first-team appearances.
Whilst missing out on a top young talent is a blow for Spurs, it also presents an opportunity for a current Tottenham talent to step up, and Brandon Austin should be looking to take advantage.
The 19-year-old is coming up through the Tottenham ranks, and earned a first cap for the United States Under-19’s earlier this year, showing his potential to becoming a real talent of the future.
Austin is out of contract next summer, meaning he needs to make this season count in order to earn a new deal, and that is even more true now a move for Bazunu has allegedly failed.
Austin now seemingly has the chance to show that Tottenham don’t need to bring in another teenage goalkeeper, and he himself can challenge Hugo Lloris, Michel Vorm and Paulo Gazzaniga, becoming the latest Spurs talent to emerge through the ranks in the exciting Pochettino era.
