Rangers are reportedly keen on Vaclav Hladky, after the goalkeeper left Scottish Premiership club St Mirren.
Now, in a strange twist of fate, a player Rangers are releasing this summer is heading to St Mirren in order to replace the Czech stopper.
On Monday, St Mirren announced the signing of Jak Alnwick. The 27-year-old has penned a two-year deal with St Mirren, joining on a free transfer.
Alnwick spent three-and-a-half years as a Rangers player, but only ever played 11 times for the Gers. After loan spells at Scunthorpe United and Blackpool, Rangers unsurprisingly allowed Alnwick to walk away this summer.
The former Newcastle United man will stay in Scotland, and should play regular first-team football with St Mirren as he prepares to replace Hladky.
The Sunday Post recently claimed that Rangers are ready to swoop for Hladky, with St Mirren recently confirming the 29-year-old’s departure at the end of his contract.

With Wes Foderingham and now Alnwick gone, Hladky could challenge Allan McGregor in the Rangers goal next season, though Rangers aren’t alone in the race.
It’s a rather strange twist that a former Rangers player is replacing a potential Rangers signing, but there is still some work to be done before Hladky arrives at Ibrox.
