Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Arsenal’s hunt for a new midfielder and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The Gunners are in the market for a new midfield player this summer, and Milinkovic-Savic is one name that has been touted. However, according to Romano, he’s not the Gunners’ top target.
Indeed, the journalist states that Arsenal are prioritising a potential swoop for Youri Tielemans ahead of Milinkovic-Savic due to the fact he’ll be much cheaper as he enters the final year of his contract.
What’s been said?
Romano spoke about Arsenal, Milinkovic-Savic and Tielemans.
“I see some of these names mentioned, Milinkovic-Savic is always mentioned in the Italian press, but Lazio want 75 or 80 million for Milinkovic-Savic, so it is a really complicated one. I am sure that Tielemans is a good opportunity because he is out of contract next summer, he is not extending his Leicester contract, so this is why Arsenal are exploring that possibility more than Milinkovic-Savic today,” Romano said.

Wise
Arsenal would be wise to go for Tielemans ahead of Milinkovic-Savic, and not just due to the price.
Of course, the fact that Tielemans is available for around half of what Lazio are demanding for the Serbian is a bonus, but he’s also the younger option and he’s proven his quality in the Premier League.
Simply put, there really isn’t much risk attached to buying Tielemans, while Milinkovic-Savic, having never played in England, is the type of signing that has been known to backfire.
Arsenal are making a wise decision here.
