Time is running out for Charlie Taylor at Leeds United, but does it really have to be the end?

It is more than a month since Charlie Taylor ruined his Leeds United career by refusing to play in the club’s final game of the season against Wigan.

Taylor is out of contract at the end of the season and while he has kept a low profile since, he was hung out to dry by then Leeds boss Garry Monk.

Monk encouraged a club fine for the left-back, and criticised him in the press, describing his decision as ill-advised, via SkySports.

In the ensuing days Taylor became public enemy number one, and there was seemingly no way back.

Since then Monk himself has become a bigger figure of derision, quitting Leeds and taking over at Championship competitors Middlesbrough.

His decision has been slated by Leeds fans on social media, and inadvertently he has taken a lot of the heat off Taylor.

In the mean time the left-back has been unsuccessful in his attempts to find a new club just yet despite public interest from West Bromwich Albion.

He is out of contract with Leeds although a mandatory offer from the Whites is on the table for a two-year deal, which enables them to gain compensation as he is under-23 and currently on course to walk out.

Yet it doesn’t necessarily have to be this way.

Over the past week odds with bookies SkyBet have changed on Taylor’s future. He has gone from 16/1 to stay at Leeds, into just 7/1.

If Taylor wanted to, a public apology outlining that he accepts his decision was wrong and ill-judged, could still endear him to fans if it is seen to come from the heart.

The difficulty for Leeds is that with no head coach at the helm, they are running out of time to get him to re-commit.

Taylor is likely heading for the exit, but there remains a small chance that it isn’t quite the end just yet.

At the very least, an apology with no further course of action could still be welcomely received.
