Birmingham City look set to achieve the great escape and stay in the Championship after picking up a third consecutive victory on Tuesday night.
The Blues looked doomed after Steve Cotterill’s exit, but the appointment of former Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk has helped spark a change in fortunes.
Lukas Jutkiewicz’s goal handed Birmingham a 1-0 win at relegation rivals Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night, meaning the Blues now sit five points clear of the bottom three.
That’s now three wins in three games for Birmingham, and a third clean sheet in a row having also beaten Hull City 3-0 and Ipswich Town 1-0, with Monk earning the plaudits.
The 39-year-old came in as Birmingham boss last month, taking something of a gamble as he attempted to keep the club in the Championship having been tasked with getting Middlesbrough promoted earlier this season, before his December sacking.
Monk’s impact has been hailed by Birmingham fans, and after the Blues boss took to Twitter to celebrate Tuesday’s win at Bolton, supporters thanked Monk for bringing hope back to St Andrews, with fans delighted with his impact so far.
Birmingham fans weren’t the only ones with a lot to say about Monk, as fans of Leeds United – the club Monk managed last season before walking away last summer – also took to Twitter to comment on the ex-Swansea boss.
Leeds have won just twice in 2018 and aren’t impressing under Paul Heckingbottom, with fans left wondering what could have been under Monk whilst suggesting that he’s showing what a new manager should do with a group of players, proving that Heckingbottom isn’t impressing at Elland Road.
