Guillem Balagué has claimed that ‘as it stands’ Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur target, Diego Carlos, will ‘stay’ at Sevilla, as he told his own YouTube channel.
The Spanish football expert claimed that Newcastle ‘haven’t come back’ from the £25 million offer that was turned down by Sevilla ‘a few weeks go’.
For a number of weeks, rumours were swirling around about Newcastle wanting to sign Carlos and then, the Daily Mail reported that Tottenham have joined them in the race for his signature.
Despite all this speculation, Carlos is still putting on the Sevilla jersey and he is trying to help his side close the gap on leaders, Real Madrid.
Sevilla are three points behind Carlo Ancelotti’s side and 13 points clear of fifth-placed, Real Sociedad in the La Liga table.
Nonetheless, Balagué shared that Carlos has a buy-out clause of £71 million in his contract, with Newcastle the only ones putting a bid in for his talents, as he had bad news about him currently staying put.
“The long story and long saga of Diego Carlos,” said Balagué. “A few weeks ago, Newcastle put an offer of €30 million (£25m).
“They haven’t come back. Sevilla said ‘no’ to that. And his buy-out clause is €85 million (£71m), so they want almost double that.
“At the moment, Newcastle aren’t willing to pay. They pay three times more his wages, but as it stands, the player will stay.
“And there has been no offer from any other English club.”

For the first time, in a very long time, Newcastle not only recorded their first win of the season on Saturday, but a clean sheet to boot.
Eddie Howe’s side recorded a nervy, yet deserved, 1-0 win at Leeds, with Jonjo Shelvey scoring the only goal of the game.
Whilst those three points are morale-boosting in Newcastle’s hope to survive relegation, they still need more depth, and most importantly, quality, at the back.
Whilst Spurs are also seemingly in the hunt for his signature, it’s pretty clear that those from the north east need him more than the north London club.
Either way, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this transfer saga rumbles on right until deadline day when Newcastle are probably tabling ridiculous money for the player.
