Darren Bent has claimed that Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson is ‘badly underrated’ and he is ‘as important as Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah’, as he told talkSPORT (26/10/21 at 9:40 am).

The former England striker played alongside the Liverpool captain during their days at Sunderland and he claimed that he is a ‘top, top player’.

Henderson provided a quite stunning assist for Mo Salah’s hat-trick during Liverpool’s thumping 5-0 win against Manchester United on Sunday.

It’s just a long list of achievements the hard-hitting midfielder has to his name, during his time on Merseyside, including being the first captain in the modern era to help Liverpool win England’s top-flight.

There’s no doubt that Henderson will go down as a legend at Anfield, as Bent waxed-lyrical about the player, despite him not being appreciated as much as he should be.

“I do think he is underrated, badly,” said Bent. “I am a big fan of his. I have seen him grow. Played with him as a youngster.

“I almost feel like when people look at Jordan Henderson. They are looking at an excuse not to rate him. They are always trying to find something, where he is influential in certain aspects, but he doesn’t do this.

“When you look at Liverpool over the last few seasons, he has been equally as important as Van Dijk and Salah. I think he is criminally underrated and a top, top player.”

It has been some ride for Henderson at Liverpool because he wasn’t exactly a player that thrived as soon as he was signed.

For several years, Henderson found life difficult under the wing of Steve Gerrard and that continued during Brendan Rodgers reign, when it looked like they were going to end their English title drought.

But as soon as Jurgen Klopp walked through the doors, he transformed his game, and in truth, he mirrors his manager out on that pitch.

Not only have they won the Premier League title, but they have also added a sixth European crown to their name and they are still going strong.
