Ashley Williams has stated that rumoured Newcastle target Aaron Ramsey is ‘as important as Gareth Bale’ for Wales, as he told Sky Sports Football (13/11/21 at 7:25 pm).

The Wales midfielder helped his country trounce Belarus 5-1 in a World Cup qualifier over the weekend and the eagle-eyed technician netted a brace during the game.

In between the recent international breaks, Ramsey has only managed seven minutes of football for Juventus, which perhaps indicates why clubs like Newcastle are keen to sign him.

It was previously suggested by Juventus News 24 that Newcastle have made contact with Ramsey, as a Premier League return looks likely for the player.

Ex-Everton defender Williams played alongside Ramsey for Wales and against him in England’s top-flight, as he spoke in awe of the player and how important he is.

“I feel like they (Bale and Ramsey) have a good connection,” said Williams. “I have noticed when one of them drops deeps, gets turned, the other one is already on their bike and making a run in-behind.

“They have played together for years, so they know each other’s game inside and out.

“We talk a lot about Gareth, and deservedly so. But this guy, he’s as important as Garet Bale. He is one of them players, if he plays well, then Wales play well.

“That’s the highest accolade I can give him is that he sets the team off.”

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar is around the corner and Ramsey can’t afford to be warming the bench in Turin.

Given that Newcastle aren’t in Europe and won’t be next season, then it does make their life difficult in trying to sign him.

But given that they have the heavy pockets to lure in the big-money players or stars on big wages, then there is no harm in trying to capture Ramsey in January on a possible loan deal.

If that were to happen then it would send a statement of intent out to the rest of the Premier League and push this currently winless Newcastle side away from safety.
