Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter in horror after finding out Mike Dean will oversee the Premier League clash against Liverpool on Thursday.

What’s the story?

Well, the Newcastle fans haven’t had many great times with Dean in charge of proceedings over the years, so they’re far from optimistic.

In truth, the game was always going to be a seriously tough one with the Reds in fine form, and also with the backing of Anfield behind them.

However, Newcastle fans seem to think Dean will make it a lot harder – one supporter even said the score will now go from 26-0 to 33-0!

So, why do the Toon Army dislike the 53-year-old?

Well, earlier this season, the Newcastle fans were furious with Dean after he failed to book Raphinha for blatantly preventing a counter attack in the 1-1 draw against Leeds.

The Brazilian hauled Joelinton back by his shorts, but escaped unpunished.

Even in 2019, Dean upset Rafa Benitez by giving Bournemouth and Eddie Howe a soft penalty, but denying the Magpies two of their own, in a 2-2 draw against the Cherries.

Most teams in Europe would find it hard to play Liverpool right now, and Newcastle’s record under Dean doesn’t offer much hope.

The controversial Premier League referee has overseen 54 Newcastle games, with the Magpies winning just 19 of those.

They have lost 21, and drawn 14, while Dean has given the Magpies 107 yellow cards in those outings.

Dean has also given Newcastle eight red cards.

In truth, even if Alan Shearer was refereeing the game, Jürgen Klopp’s side would probably still win.

For now, let’s see what the Newcastle fans on Twitter have been saying about the news…
