Speaking on the LadBible TV YouTube channel, Jamie Carragher has been discussing Harry Kane and his role in this England team.

The England captain will undoubtedly be the Three Lions’ most important player in Qatar, and Carragher believes that Kane’s ability to drop deep will be key to England’s attacking set-up.

Carragher says that as Kane is getting older and wiser, he’s becoming much better at dropping deep and getting on the ball earlier, describing that aspect of his game as ‘fantastic’.

Kane brilliant at dropping deep

Carragher spoke about the striker and the recent playmaking addition to his game.

“It all revolves around Harry Kane. He’s the absolute guarantee, he’s going to start every game and as Alan has mentioned he’s always coming deeper for the ball and as he’s getting older he’s fantastic at getting on the ball, but you need people running in behind and pace behind Harry Kane. If you have another player in that position coming for the ball you have no penetration, so you look at Foden and Saka,” Carragher said.

Rounded

Kane’s ability to drop deeper has made him a much more well-rounded player.

When the striker first came through, he was your archetypal traditional number nine. He was constantly compared to players such as Alan Shearer and he scored at a remarkable rate.

Kane’s scoring hasn’t slowed down, but now he’s able to impact so many more areas of the pitch. He can assist just as well as he can score, and even when he’s not directly setting up goals, he’s so often starting off attacks.

England’s best goalscorer is now also their best creator and that makes him a vital weapon going into this World Cup.
