Newcastle United should be looking at Swansea City midfielder Ki Sung-yueng.

Swansea City’s Premier League status isn’t quite secured just yet, and they will also have concerns over the future of midfielder Ki Sung-yueng.

The South Korean international, 29, joined the Swans from Celtic in 2012, and has racked up more than 150 appearances for the club whilst establishing himself as one of the most underrated midfielders in the Premier League.

The problem for Swansea is that Ki’s contract expires this summer, and no matter whether the club stay in the Premier League or not, he appears to be on his way out.

Sky Sports report that Everton have now joined the race for Ki, with AC Milan and four other Premier League clubs also thought to be pursuing his signature this summer.

Given that he is available for free, Newcastle United should be one of those clubs looking to sign Ki, handing Rafael Benitez a major boost in the heart of midfield.

Jonjo Shelvey and Mohamed Diame have impressed in 2018, but with Mikel Merino’s future in question and Isaac Hayden little more than cover right now, Ki could add another proven Premier League midfielder to Benitez’s ranks.

Ki also struck up a superb midfield partnership with Shelvey at Swansea City, and reuniting them in the middle of the park would give Newcastle greater control of possession and a pre-existing relationship rather than attempting to form a new midfield duo.

There won’t be many free transfers better than Ki this summer, and with Everton now in the race, Newcastle must attempt to join the race by offering the midfielder a return to the North East having previously had a loan spell with Sunderland.
