A month ago Newcastle United were claimed by The Sun to be leading the chase for Bundesliga striker Niclas Fullkrug.

Fullkrug scored 14 goals for Hoffenheim last season, ending the campaign as the German top flight’s joint third highest goalscorer.

Now it appears Everton are ready to jump the queue for his signature.

Get Football Germany report Everton are negotiating with Hannover over Fullkrug’s signature and are preparing to offer the club a lucrative deal.

Everton are well positioned financially and are keen to outgun their rivals for a deal.

Newcastle’s lack of funds were shown up last year by big spending Everton and this summer looks like more of the same.

Regarding the signature of Fullkrug, Newcastle could come to regret not acting earlier.

Having been linked a month ago, the Toon have not made a move to sign the German, and now risk seeing him move to their Premier League competitors.

With transfer funds relatively low, a successful summer for Newcastle is dependent on clever scouting and swift decision making.

In the case of Fullkrug, it would appear a lack of the latter has let them down.
