Sol Bamba scored in Cardiff City’s 3-1 win at Brentford on Tuesday night.

Cardiff City edged another step closer to promotion to the Premier League with a 3-1 win over Brentford on Tuesday night.

The Bluebirds have excelled under Neil Warnock this season, and their latest victory means they are now seven points clear of third-placed Aston Villa.

One of the highlights from Tuesday’s win was a superb volley from defender Sol Bamba, who took the ball down inside the area after pinball inside the penalty box, and rattled his shot into the far corner.

Bamba’s opener set Cardiff on their way to victory, and he understandably earned huge praise from Caridff fans on Twitter after the final whistle at Griffin Park.

Fans joked that Bamba is worth far more than Liverpool’s January signing Virgil van Dijk, and praised him for a solid all-round display as well as his superb opening goal.

Bamba may be a hero at the Cardiff City Stadium, but Leeds fans will be left wondering what might have been had Garry Monk not discarded him in the summer of 2016.

Monk decided to release the Ivorian from his contract having decided that he wouldn’t feature in his Leeds defence, having come off the back of an up-and-down campaign under Uwe Rosler and Steve Evans.

However, the 33-year-old has been colossal in the heart of the Cardiff defence this season, helping them boast the Championship’s meanest defence as the former Leicester City man nears promotion to the Premier League.

With Leeds unable to settle on a partner for Pontus Jansson, fans will be left wondering how the pair could have solidified a leaky Leeds back line this season – but instead, Bamba is on the verge of promotion with Cardiff, and whilst former boss Monk made a number of mistakes, letting Bamba go for free rather than giving him a chance may just be top of his list of errors.
